KNOW YOUR RISK FOR DEVELOPING THE DREADED PRE-ECLAMPSIA

The first trimester scan is revolutionary in the assessment of the pregnancy and the fetus. It is performed between 11 and 14 weeks. It requires training and has to be performed meticulously. if done appropriately it could provide information of the following:


  1. Nuchal translucency
  2. Presence / absence of the nasal bone
  3. Ductus venosus doppler flow
  4. Fetal heart rate
  5. Uterine artery doppler flow
  6. Fetal structural survey


These information can be used to:
1.    predict genetic and structural integrity in the young fetus and plan for further analysis if necessary.
2.   predict women who are going to develop high blood pressure later in pregnancy

If the test is performed between 11 and 14 weeks of pregnancy and combined with pregnancy hormones it is called the First Trimester Screening.
